Shahid Pervez, a Scots lawyer who was jailed for five years after admitting attempting to pervert the course of justice, has had his sentence cut to 32 months.

The Scotsman reports :

Jailed lawyer's sentence is cut

A LAWYER who gave a false alibi to a client facing abduction and extortion charges has had his sentence halved.

Shahid Pervez, 39, was originally jailed for five years and three months after admitting attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Court of Criminal Appeal judges called the sentencing judge's approach "wholly excessive" and cut the sentence to 32 months.

Pervez, of Crookston, Glasgow, was formerly a city conveyancing solicitor but Lord Johnston said the case had "professionally ruined" him.
